about

In 2017 I composed and recorded a new mandolin tune every week and posted the results on my So Many Tunes blog. These 21 tracks represent some of my favorite tunes of the original 52 pieces and I have taken some time sequencing them in an order that I find appealing.

All of the recording was done at home in Decorah, Iowa and (for better or worse) I played all of the mandolin, octave mandolin and guitar parts. My goal in most cases was to play the tune cleanly, usually 3 times through, adding harmonies as the tune developed. The sheet music for these tunes can be found on my blog as well so you can easily play along or share the music with friends.

I believe that I used three different 1920s-era oval hole Gibson mandolins, an early 1980s Flatiron octave mandolin and a recent Martin 00-18 guitar for these recordings.
